About Zara

This is an image of a woman smiling, outside in a country lane. She is in her mid-late thirties and has long, light brown hair.

Hello!
Welcome to ‘Wind Woven Wild Things’, the place to shop and discover all about the creative works of Zara James;
author, artist and illustrator from Cornwall, UK.

I am Zara, a creative soul and mother to three wonderful, wild boys. I live in a small village in Cornwall that is wrapped in nature.

I love to be barefoot in my garden and to explore outdoors, with a camera in one hand and collection of leaves and pebbles in the other. I enjoy nature photography, digital (and messy) painting, growing things from seed and I adore to write.

I also have an incredible brain! I have ADHD, OCD and I am autistic - which, while having it’s challenges, allows me to enhance my creative style with a unique way of seeing the world.

Author info: My passion is to create inclusive and relatable children’s picture books that woo the hearts of little ones of all neurotypes. I hope to positively promote our wonderful world and its invisible disabilities. I want to encourage readers to support and make accommodations for one another, to inspire people to look for hidden beauty everywhere and ultimately, to embrace our beautifully unique selves and celebrate the individual way we each see the world like no one else. My debut picture book ‘Lyra’s Strings’ is now available to purchase.

Artist/illustrator info: I am a freelance artist and illustrator, strongly inspired by nature, lifestyles, travel and the unique way my mind works. I have studied art, design, illustration and photography and I have a BA (Hons) degree in Fashion from Plymouth College of Art and Design. Over the years I have stretched out into my own personal style and honed my skills of scribbling with passion and with purpose.

My work is organic, expressive, full of confident mark making, movement and layering. I create both traditional and digital pieces, diving deeply into using a wide range of materials to create abundant visual texture.
